How long will it take to fly to Australia?

Our current schedule:
San Francisco to Los Angeles (American #1957):
8:15PM (July 25) -- 9:30PM (July 25)
Los Angeles to Sydney (Qantas #108):
11:45PM (July 25) -- 7:20AM (July 27)
Key facts:
Sydney is normally 18 hours later than San Francisco (or 6 hours earlier
on the following day,
since we'll cross the international date line on the way to Sydney ... Got that?)
At this time of year, we're on
daylight savings time;
they're not; so, Sydney is 17 hours later
than San Francisco (or 7 hours earlier on the following day).
So how long will it take for us to get there???
1 hour 15 minutes flying time to Los Angeles
2 hours 15 minutes waiting in LA
14 hours 35 minutes flying time to Sydney (at least 5 movies!)
(15min till midnight July 25) + (24 hours till midnight July 26) + (7hr 20min till arrival) -
(17hrs time change)
Total: 18 hours 05 minutes!!!
So we recommend that you sleep a little on the plane (for some of our
7,408-mile journey),
and then extend July 26th by 7 hours; that way
you'll be right in sync with Sydney's
Woolloomooloo
citizens.
* Note that there are three time zones in Australia --
the middle of the country is 1/2 hour earlier than Sydney!!!
