Tasmania is -- it's one of Australia's 6 states. {Australia also includes 2 "territories."} New Zealand is not. It's a separate country that is about 1,500 miles east-south-east of Australia. There is a huge rivalry between Australia and New Zealand, ranging from sports to politics!
