How much is an Australian Dollar worth?

An Australian dollar is worth about 76 U.S. cents. So a gorgeous pair of opal earrings priced at A$300 in Sydney is about $218 in U.S. dollars. {For the latest exchange rates visit X-rate.} Note that single cents may still be used for some prices, but since the Australian 1c and 2c coins are no longer circulated, the total amount to be paid will be rounded (up or down) to the nearest five-cent amount. Also note that there are no "dollar bills" - they use one-dollar and two-dollar coins instead!

Australia was the first country to replace paper currency with "polymer banknotes." With this type of plastic money, bills last much longer.
