Which tower is the Sydney Tower?
Click on the picture to see a view from the top of the tower.
The Sydney Tower, formally known as the AMP Tower, was completed in 1981. It is 1,000 feet tall (including the antenna). The eight turret levels were constructed on the roof of the base building, and then raised to the top, using hydraulic jacks! The base contains the Centrepoint Shopping Centre with over 140 shops featuring fashion and accessories, food, gifts and jewellery. The upper observation levels are serviced by three double decker lifts (elevators). There are 1,504 steps from street level to the top of the tower, which are used by competitors in the annual tower run (gulp!).
We are scheduled to eat dinner at the top in one of the revolving restaurant, which rotates once every hour or so. (Just in case you were asking, the tower was designed to withstand winds up to 105mph!)
