ANZAC stands for Australian and New Zealand Army Corp. ANZAC means much more than that though; it embodies what it meant to be a Digger, a Battler. ANZAC is the true essence of being Australian. In the words of the official Gallipoli Campaign historian, C E W Bean, the ANZAC spirit "stood, and still stands, for reckless valor in a good cause, for enterprise, resourcefulness, fidelity, comradeship and endurance that will never own defeat."

During World War I, the wives, mothers, and girlfriends of Australian soldiers were concerned about the nutritional value of the food being supplied to their men. However, anything they sent them had to last for two months or more without refrigeration. The solution they came up with was a biscuit that used syrup instead of eggs, which were in short supply, to hold it together.
