What is the weather going to be in Cairns?

Cairns pronounced "cans," is at a latitude that is similar to the Yucatan Peninsula (see the picture above), so its weather is tropical. When we'll be there in August, the average high temperatures will be about 81.5 degrees F; The average lows will be 63.3 degrees F; And the average rainfall will be 1.1 inches per month.

Cairns is the gateway to the Great Barrier Reef and the Daintree Rainforest, both of which are listed as World Heritage Regions. Recently the city completed a major renovation along the waterfront that included a large saltwater swimming lagoon and a long promenade/boardwalk/ esplanade. The lagoon offers visitors an all year safe swimming location, which is important because the ocean often contains "stingers" (box jellyfish) from October through March, BUT NOT WHILE WE'RE THERE!
